Jupiter, a lion once mistreated in a circus in Colombia, found refuge and love with Ana Julia Torres, a devoted caretaker. After years of suffering, Jupiter was saved by Ana and began a new chapter of his life at the Villa Lorena sanctuary in Santiago de Cali. Deprived of claws and wary of humans, he slowly learned to trust through Ana’s care and affection, as reported by Olhar Animal on March 20, 2020.

Thanks to Ana’s attentive love, Jupiter underwent a complete transformation. From reactive and mistrustful, he became gentle and affectionate, showing his affection towards his rescue team through hugs and kisses.

However, authorities deemed the sanctuary not the best environment for Jupiter and transferred him to Los Caimanes Zoo in Montería, Córdoba. This decision proved disastrous as Jupiter began to rapidly decline. Becoming aggressive and weakened, his health reached a critical point, suffering from malnutrition, weakened kidneys and liver, as well as chronic anemia.

Witnessing Jupiter’s deterioration, Ana Julia didn’t hesitate to intervene. Convinced that the zoo was not a suitable place for him, she pleaded with the government for his return to the sanctuary.

Back in his place of happiness, Jupiter showed a willingness to fight despite his illness. Welcoming Ana with hugs and kisses, he showed his gratitude and love.

Unfortunately, despite everyone’s efforts, the diagnosis was relentless. Jupiter was suffering from terminal liver cancer. His story moved the entire country, eliciting prayers and hopes for his recovery, but he ultimately lost his battle against the disease, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.
